Jefferson Community College
Jefferson Community College students are now taking advantage of distance learning courses. As the name implies, distance learning is coursework that is offered with physical distance between the instructor and the students - usually many miles. Coming to campus at a given time and place is no longer the only option. JCC offers two different types of distance learning: Online and Two-Way Interactive.
Online courses are the newest and most far-reaching style of learning at a distance. Students with Internet access can take JCC courses from virtually anywhere. These classes run during the normal semester, and while students don't have to attend class at a given hour and day, they do have to sign on, do the assignments, interact with their instructors and classmates, and generally participate in the course on a regular basis. The most exciting thing is, students can do that work at any time of day - before work or after work; at noon or after midnight - whatever works best for them! Students can choose from credit courses and non-credit workshops, all of which they can take right from their own homes!
Online
Online courses are courses taken via the Internet. JCC offers credit courses as well as non-credit workshops in this format.

Interactive Video
Interactive video courses are taught like traditional classes, with fixed meeting times and places. These courses are taught on campus in JCC's Distance Learning (DL) Room. JCC students attend sessions with an instructor in the DL Room, but the class is also being transmitted to one or more off-campus locations. So far, most DL courses are fed to advanced students in area high schools, so opportunities for JCC students to take these courses "at a distance" are limited to evening sections only.
And flexibility is at the heart of distance learning. Through DL, and other opportunities offered by JCC, going to college can fit into just about anyone's schedule.
